What to do while you're on your way
Toothache
Rinse with warm water and gently clean between the teeth to remove trapped food. Use pain relief as directed on its label if it is safe for you. Don't place tablets directly on the gum.
Knocked-out adult tooth
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently without scrubbing. If you can, place it back in the socket; otherwise keep it in milk. Get to a dentist as quickly as possible, ideally within an hour.
Broken or chipped tooth
Rinse your mouth, save any pieces you can find and hold a cold compress against your cheek to reduce swelling.
Lost filling or crown
Keep the crown or filling and bring it with you. Avoid chewing on that side.
After the emergency
We assess and relieve the pain first, then plan definitive treatment. That may be a root canal, a filling, a crown or an extraction, depending on the problem. Children can be seen too. See kids dentistry.
Timings
Our regular timings are 10 AM to 2 PM and 4 PM to 8 PM. Please call before you set out so we can confirm today's timings and prepare for your visit.
Common questions
Can I just walk in with a toothache?
Please call first so we can confirm timings and see you as soon as possible.
Will the pain be treated on the same visit?
We assess the problem and relieve pain first. What can be completed in the same visit depends on the problem, and we explain the next steps before starting.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Only an examination can tell you what your teeth need.
